Becoming the woman you want to be – in the world and for the world – is the essence of a summer’s experience at Aloha Camp. Here, teen girls have opportunities to grow every day, learning and perfecting new skills, building and managing personal relationships, making good choices and choosing to succeed.
At Aloha Camp, the insecurities and angst of being a teen girl dissolve in a wide variety of recreational and educational activities. Essential life skills like decision-making and goal-setting literally become child's play as girls choose freely from among activities like archery, crew, and wilderness adventure.
If you spend even a little time at Aloha you’ll hear certain words used a lot. Intentionality is one. Almost everything we do at camp, we do consciously, with clear intention. We wear simple uniforms, for example – white T’s and green shorts, mostly – for freedom from fashion, because being fashionable gets in the way of being ourselves.
Community is another favorite word at Aloha. We love our special camp places and spaces, great activities and traditions, of course; but above all, we love and care for each other, all for one and one for all.
And then there’s Aloha’s not-so-secret success program – Success Counseling, that is, a powerful guidance technique pioneered by the camps of The Aloha Foundation. Success Counseling puts teen girls on pathways to growth, and every camp counselor is trained to use it to help young women campers achieve goals and resolve problems by taking responsibility for their own actions, attitudes and feelings.
In post-camp evaluations, parents frequently report a common phenomenon, with variations on this phrase: ”I can’t believe the teenager who came home is the same one who went to camp just a few weeks ago!”
