For Girls Ages 7-12

Kathy Plunkett, Director

Hive is a magical summer world, set under the pine trees by the sparkling shores of Lake Fairlee. Designed specifically to meet the needs of young girls, it is a warm, nurturing place where each camper can feel at home and learn to be her best self.

Campers choose activities daily from a wide selection of options. A typical day usually includes four different activities, such as sailing, swimming, arts & crafts and tennis. Counselors help campers to identify their goals and create a plan for success.

One counselor and three Hivers of the same age or grade in school live in a "tent family". (A few cabins house four campers and two counselors each.) Campers and counselors are matched carefully so that children can learn from one another and have an enriching summer experience. Tent families enjoy canoe breakfasts and overnights, playing together during free time and during quiet time, and forming a supportive summer "family".

Over 80 staff members create a nurturing, safe environment in which approximately 140 young girls learn about independence and community living under the guidance of college-age role models.

Join us for seven or three and a half weeks of Hive summer fun and excitement.

Aloha Hive is a place where girls can...

...play with friends from all around the world.
...invent costumes and put on a show; sing in harmony.
...shoot bows and arrows or pop a balloon in archery.
...weave a basket on the dock while dangling toes in the cool lake water.
...improve tennis skills and play a vigorous match.
...eat breakfast in a canoe floating through the mist.
...talk and sing with friends by a campfire under starry skies.
...dance under the pine trees and swim in a cool lake.
...learn to sail a boat or paddle a canoe.
...get hugs from counselors who understand that occasionally, even
the most seasoned camper feels a little homesick.
...climb a mountain and see the view or paddle a canoe down a river.
...learn to make good choices, become self-confident, and stretch self-imposed limits.
...enjoy unhurried, electronic-free, creative time.

New Elfin Program at Hive!

Aloha Hive initiated a program for young, first-time campers in the summer of 2005 with great success. Known as the Elfin Program, it's an opportunity for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade graduates to sample residential camp life for one full week, July 22nd through July 29th, 2008, during our second Camp session.

Elfins join in on the fun and excitement of daily activities and evening programs that build new friendships, self-esteem, independence, and often, family confidence and enthusiasm for returning to Hive, half or full-season, the following summer.
