Lanakila: Land Sports

Land Sports at the Aloha Camps

Although the Alohas are not highly competitive communities, we do enjoy all sorts of games and sports. Occasional friendly competitions with other camps are a great way to try out newly-honed skills. Lanakila boys can also try cricket, "Shoe Golf", and the ever-popular Ultimate Frisbee, while Aloha girls can choose to participate in sports workshops at nearby Dartmouth College.

Archery

This is an activity children often have the opportunity to try only at camp. Campers love the challenge of hitting the bull's eye, trying a balloon shoot, or working on archery ranks.

Tennis

Our great counselor-to-camper ratio gives campers a wonderful opportunity for careful instruction, whether they play regularly on the team at home, or are being introduced to the racquet for the first time.

Basketball

All of the Aloha Camps have basketball courts (Hive's is half-sized) and campers use them constantly, both during actual activity periods and in their free moments.

Gymnastics & Dance

Hivers enjoy a full range of tumbling, aerobics, balance beam and dance in the wonderful Green House, a studio designed especially for these programs. Dancing by the Lake or showing new talents to friends can also be a treat. At Aloha, dance is offered for girls who enjoy an opportunity to perform or practice.

Riflery

Our rifle range at Lanakila provides a safe place for young men and women to try their hand at riflery. Trained counselors emphasize concentration as campers gain skills in this popular sport. (Riflery is offered at Aloha and Lanakila only.)

Baseball & Softball

Baseball is one of the most popular activities at Lanakila and Horizons, and softball is a regular part of the programs at Aloha, Hive and Horizons. Summer wouldn't be summer without the "Great American Pastime" being practiced on fields here in Vermont!

Street Hockey

Lanakila's world-famous Boffey Cup Tournament, played under the lights with announcers and organ music, is the culmination of a lively team competition during the second half of the summer.

Field Hockey

Field hockey players of all abilities can practice and improve at Aloha and Hive. At Aloha, we may also offer field hockey or soccer workshops at Dartmouth College. Ask us for this summer's details!

Soccer

An energetic, active game of soccer is great for all ages, and camp is a safe place to practice skills in a relaxed setting. As with other sports, we do try our luck in low-key inter-camp competitions.

Lacrosse

It's fun to try out a new sport, and for many of our Aloha, Hive and Lanakila campers, this will be their first encounter with this exciting sport.
