The Aloha camps are the beneficiaries of permanently endowed funds given by thoughtful and generous donors over more than four decades. These funds, totaling approximately $10 million, provide the strong base of the Foundation’s financial operation, allowing us to plan for the future of the Aloha camps with confidence.
These funds are invested under the supervision of the Board of Trustees, with a goal of generating both income and capital growth. The Board of Trustees has endorsed a policy that allows for an amount equal to 5 percent of the 3-year trailing average of the principal value of the endowed funds to be made available to support the camps. This prudent approach ensures that the principal value of the funds is preserved and enhanced from year to year, as the markets allow. Investing for growth of donated principal and making best use of a conservative income flow ensures that our permanently endowed funds will provide an enduring benefit that will grow over time.
Endowed funds currently exist to serve a number of purposes, including:
support for camperships at the residential camps
support for staff salaries at the residential camps
maintenance of our five campuses
support for the camps’ extensive music programs and instrument maintenance and replacement
support for specific programs and activities.
