STAFF PROFILE ~ Katie Seivwright ~ Lead Instructor

I am now starting my second season at the Hulbert Outdoor Center’s School Program.  I gladly take on the responsibility of Lead Instructor with the new season.   My original training in education was for the classroom setting, but having had some experience with it I have decided to pursue outdoor education.  Sharing experiences with children outside can provide outcomes unparalleled with classrooms. Our general education is curtailed without the development of interpersonal relationships and a connection to nature.  The Hulbert Outdoor Center’s School Program offers valuable opportunities for children to challenge themselves and a welcoming environment to learn new skills.  I have grown personally and professionally within this very community.

I’ve been an educator in some capacity for eight years. I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and General Science from Keene State College in 2008.  For the last seven summers I have worked at Camp Downer first as a counselor and later as the program head of the aquatic programs.  My teaching venues have been varied including student teaching, work as a Para-educator at Grand Isle School, outdoor instructor at Keewaydin Environmental Education Center and as a ski instructor at Smugglers Notch Ski Resort.  To enhance my knowledge as an instructor, I participated in a NOLS course for outdoor educators in southwest Arizona in January of 2011.  This was a wonderful learning experience that has affirmed my dedication to the field and sparked a love of rock climbing.

I look forward to welcoming our participants and providing both an enriching and gripping experience. Whether you are joining our community for a day or a full week, I can’t wait for your arrival!

Katie is one of the instructors that make up School Programs' team.  Every one of our instructors has been trained and loves working with school-aged kids.  We look forward to getting to know you!
