Ohana has a talented, enthusiastic, and small program staff that supports and teaches 40-70 guests each week. Program staff will spend at least half of most days in their specialty area. However, it is important to know that all staff will find themselves helping in other areas, as the need arises. These could include but are not limited to:
Waterfront Specialists: Seasonal full-time
Ohana has an extensive waterfront, including an enclosed and roped-off swimming area and a separate boating area with sailboats, lake kayaks, canoes, and rowboats. The Ohana waterfront is our most popular and extensively used program area. Our waterfront specialists must have current ARC lifeguard training or the equivalent, instructional background in the use of one or more of Ohana's boats, ARC or ACA certification in one or more of Ohana's boat styles, and strong guest management and interpersonal skills.
Craft Specialists: Seasonal full- or part-time
Ohana is embarking on the establishment of a new arts and crafts program for all of our guests, children and adults alike. The craft specialist must have an extensive instructional background in a variety of craft areas. It is our intention to begin with crafts that may include pottery; kick wheel and hand building, basketry, knitting, sewing, embroidery, weaving, beading, painting and drawing, tie dyeing, carving, and additional areas that are appropriate as part of a first-year program.
Naturalist/Environmental Educator: Seasonal part-time
Environmental education, and sensitivity to our environment and the natural world are all integral parts of our life and work at Ohana. As Ohana’s lead naturalist you will be responsible for leading a variety of two hour natural history activities and/or guided walks, and a minimum of one 1 ½ hour evening presentation to the entire camp community.
Young Children Specialist: Seasonal part-time
Young children (Wee Ones) are an important part of Ohana’s camp program. Three mornings a week, we offer a two hour program for this group of young campers, aged two to six years. Games, crafts, reading aloud, nature hikes, and cooking all may be part of these program periods each week.
Grounds, Gardener & Buildings Specialist: Seasonal full- or part-time
We pride ourselves on the natural beauty of Ohana’s land, and on the high quality appearance of our buildings, facilities, and gardens. This pride comes from a good deal of effort, knowledge, and creativity in keeping all of Ohana’s physical environs in tiptop shape. A Jack or Jill of all trades, this person will plant, weed, harvest, mow, saw, lift, paint, rake, split, drive, repair, and replace or recycle in the course of a day at Ohana. Although a good deal of this work will be completed alone, this person must be capable of organizing and managing a team of co-workers or volunteers who have come to help with the “heavy lifting.
Head Chef: Seasonal full-time
Under the direction of the camp director and the food service director and in accordance with the camp policies and procedures, the chef is responsible for the day-to-day food service operations at Ohana Camp. This includes menu input, ordering the food, maintenance of health department cleanliness standards, overseeing the composting of our kitchen and dining hall waste, supervision of kitchen staff, supervision and execution of meal production (Sample Menu), maintenance of temperature logs, tracking of food costs, and the generation of food cost reports.
Assistant Chef: Seasonal full- or part-time
Under the direction of the head chef and in accordance with the camp policies and procedures, the assistant chef is responsible for assisting in the kitchen, the dining hall, and the dish room as well as for janitorial duties, assisting with our composting efforts, and other duties as needed to help the camp maintain smooth operation. In addition, the assistant chef will cover all aspects of the kitchen operation on the chef’s day off.
Baker: Seasonal part-time
We pride ourselves in providing our guests with a wide variety of homemade baked goods. This includes sandwich breads, rolls, dinner & breakfast breads, and desserts, including cakes, pies, cookies, and bars.
Kitchen Helpers: Seasonal full-time
Under the direction of the head chef, assistant chef and in accordance with the camp policies and procedures, the kitchen helpers are primarily responsible for helping with meal preparation, dining hall set-up prior to each meal, and kitchen clean-up including dish & pot washing.
